Hangi Term 4 2019

Hello,
Team Moana has been learning about the preparation for a hangi. Yesterday and today we have been working on the preparation of the hole but not the food yet. There are 6 steps to preparing the hole. We could do an animation, a movie and a story. Me and my group did an animation.

I didn't really like how we could only have 50 slides at the most because I love my detail.
I liked the choices that we had, I don't really like animations but it was the fastest.
The learning behind this task was to put the preparation of a hangi into a DLO.

Christmas decorations

Hello,

Today and yesterday Team Moana has been making Christmas decorations to sale at the Whanau
evening to raise money for the next year ski trip. Ms A said that we had to make quality decorations,
quality over quantity. Ideas started flooding my head when I saw the materials. We could be by ourselves
or be in groups.

Me and my buddy were sitting at the table thinking, thinking. Then she said we should make a New
Zealand themed wreath. Thinking. I had an idea. A Kiwi wreath. I drew the design on paper and showed
the teacher, she said it was a cool idea.

I didn’t really like how the power went out when we were halfway through.

I liked the whole idea of the Christmas decorations it was so much fun.

Essential List 6 , 7 and 8 Annelise

Hello,
Today and yesterday Team Moana have been doing an activity to practice our spelling on Essential lists 6, 7 and 8. We had to choose ten words from one of those lists and write the syllables, write a sentence and the root word.

I didn't really enjoy this activity because I don't like spelling (I'm not good at it).
I enjoyed writing the sentences because I could be creative and I like writing more then spelling.
The learning behind this task was to practice our spelling words for the test.

Language exploration

Hello,

Today, Team Moana have been given a choice, to do an animal report or to do an activity with words. We have from today till Friday to get these activities. I chose to do the activity that involved words. So, what we had to do was ether make a slide or a drawing and name it "Language exploration-verb" or "Language exploration-adjective" depending on if your word is a verb or adjective. Then we had to make a new slide, on this new slide we would chose a word. We had to brainstorm some words around the word in the middle, it had to be colourful and had to have a readable but fun font. We could go to Thesaurus to help us (it is an online site that shows you better words for a plain word and it shows you the definitions for words you don't know). After all of the work on that slide there is one more slide to go, when you went looking in Thesaurus you would have found a word that you don't understand so we had to do one more slide and write down the word. We had to find the definition, find out how many syllables, show the vowels, show the consonants, write how it's said, find smaller words that mean the same and write a sentence that has the word in it.

I enjoyed looking for words on Thesaurus for "Run".
I didn't really like having to spell all of the words that went into this task.
The learning behind this task was to be able to better words for a simple plain one.

Margaret Peters Spelling Test

Kia ora everyone
Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 36 which gives me a spelling age of 11.0
At the beginning of the year, I scored 38 and had a spelling age of 11.2.

So, my spelling age went backwards by 2 months and my score went down by two words.

I think I got this result because I'm not very good at remembering how to spell words and
I can't even remember where all the letters in the alphabet go without saying them all.

I'm not very happy with my test results, I think I could do better.

Rugby World Cup Country Research

Hello,
Last week, as you should now, New Zealand played against South Africa in Japan for the World Cup. New Zealand was so good and won. The sore was 23 to 13. Anyway at school we did a Rugby World Cup Country Research work sheet. We all had to choose a country that played. I chose South Africa because they played so well against New Zealand. There were a list of questions we had to answer. There were 17 questions plus a fact about the country.

I loved doing this work sheet. It was so fun doing work about our national sport.
I didn't really like writing down the languages of the country because South Africa has so many.
The learning behind this task was to research a country that is playing rugby in Japan.
GO THE ALL BLACKS!!

Science Fair

Kia ora,

For the last few weeks we have been making science slides for the science fair this week.
We all had groups. My group's science fair  experiment was :"Which lolly will dissolve
the fastest in hot water?" The lollies that we had were Fruit burst, Mints and Macintosh.

I found it hard to work with my group and agree on everything.
It was really easy to make our science board.
The learning behind this task was to find out how to do a science experiment and write a report about it.
This is a link to my science slide.

Comparison Matrix

Kia ora,

Here is a blog blurb for the reading task
you will be working on today with Mrs B.

This week, we are learning about the ways
writers describe good characters in their stories.
We had to read several texts and then create a
Comparison Matrix to show how the Clothing,
Personalities and Physical Appearance of the
good characters were similar.

The hard part was: Doing the info for Sleeping Beauty
and Cinderella because the text was different to what I
know happened in the movie so I got confused.

The easy part was: The easy part was doing the
appearance because they were all beautiful.

Forces and Motion.

Hello bloggers,

Today I'm going to share with you
a DLO I made about Forces and motion.
We had to read a text and then pluck out
the important ideas and set them out clearly
on a new DLO.

The learning behind this was:Learn more about forces.
Be able to identify important ideas.
What was hard: It’s hard to find the main ideas.
What was easy: Finding pictures to suit the words.

Week 3 Reading Physical World

Hello my friends,

For reading our teachers were very
smart and came up with a great fun
activity that involved technology and
books (I really liked that).

What we had to do was think of
a question on motion or force then
make a title page that said Week 3
Reading Physical World then write
down your question, on the next slide
what you found out in the 13 books on
the floor at the front of the class.

I loved doing the animation and working
with my character Jarred.

I found it hard to find anything the that would
match my question (I ended up switching to google).

The learning behind this task was to read the books
and find the answers.

What is a force?

Hello Bloggers,
This Term we are doing the Physical World,
and so far I have really liked it. We've been
studying force Miss B gave us a page of useful
things on force. This is what I did with what I found out.

I liked drawing my sailboat.
I didn't really like reading the page.
The learning behind this task was to
read a page on force and do a DLO on it.

Here is what I did...

Holidays!!😉

HI,HI!!👋

The weather so far has been perfect for
bom fires, so that's what we did. Me and
my little brother Asbjorn were getting the
wood (He was using the axe for the big
pieces and I was supervising).😜😉

With my brains and his (slightly) strong
arms we got all the fire wood in our backyard.
We were very pleased with our hard work.
Soon my dad came out with the flame thrower
and petrol and started her up.

That night we had marshmallows on a stick
and bacon and egg (mini) pies. It wasn't that
cold next to the blazing fire.👍👌

Blog later.😎😛

How Saturn's rings were formed

Hello,👋

For an inquiry task after I finished my
earthquake task and my PMI , I decided
I wanted to do something on Saturn's rings.
I really like Saturn (It's my favourite planet).

I learnt a lot on Saturn's rings and the way they
were formed millions of years ago.
It made a lot of scenes and was really easy
to find on the internet (The information).📜

Presentation on Planet Earth and Beyond.

Hello bloggers, 👋
For the last three weeks my class has been learning
about Planet Earth and Beyond. We had to make a slide show presentation
on Planet Earth and Beyond.
The learning behind this task was to find the answer to a wondering I had about Planet Earth and Beyond. My wondering was Does Climate change affect the creatures in the Twilight zone?I liked how we got to choose a wondering.I found it hard to get the definitions for my keywords.I learnt two really exciting facts about my wondering, they were...Carbon in the periodic table is CO2, and carbon may be consumed.
and recycled by marine organisms (COOL).

Autumn Morning (Leaf writing)

Hello again bloggers,👋

Yesterday we had the lovely Miss Fletcher in
our class. As it is winter and all the leaves are
dying and they're all going reds, oranges, yellows
and browns we had to write a creative piece of
writing.

We went on a walk around the back to look at the
leaves that are dying. There was this tree that had
hundreds of leaves around its trunk.

This is my Google Draw Autumn Morning.

PMI:2

Hello,👋

This is my PMI (Positive, Minus, Interesting).
I did this on my birds eye view DLO.🐦

This task was to Evaluate our
learning about earthquakes using a table.😁😎

It was the easiest to do the Positive
side because it was a fun activity
that I really liked. 😌😄

I found it really hard to do the
detail on the drawing.😕😕😕

Birds Eye View Earthquake

Hello, 👋

This is my DLO (Digital, Learning, Object).
It's a birds eye view after an earthquake
and the safe places that you could go to
if in an earthquake.🌏

It was really fun doing this DLO because
I LOVE doing drawings about earthquakes.😂

It was hard doing the cars and the fences
around the houses, because of all the detail.😕

Is Earth like a hard boiled egg?

Hello,👋

We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside.
We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents
and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Structure of the Earth Facts

Hello,👋😁

For writing today we did some facts on the structure and the layers of the Earth.
Yesterday we all got into groups of three and made an Earth out of modelleing clay,
then we all painted the four layers of the Earth in different colours
(blue, green, yellow, red, brown and orange).

I really liked making the continents and islands on the crust.😉
It was really hard making the layers because we kept on squishing
them so you couldn't see that they were layers.🌏🌍🌎

Here is my writing and my photos:

Structure of the Earth Facts
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are: Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core.

Facts about each layer:
Crust - The crust is the thinnest layer out of all four of them.
The crust is 8-40 kms thick!!
Mantle -  The mantle is the thickest layer of them all. It has melted rocks that squish around
because it’s so hot.
Outer Core - The Outer Core is the 3rd layer to the inside of the Earth.
It is totally liquid-rock and it’s also 4000-6000℃.
Inner Core - The Inner core might be really, really super duper hot but it is solid why?
Because of all the pressure pushing down on it from all the other layers.

Our group - Saphera, Aaidyn and I Annelise😎
First we created a 3D image of the earth using modelling clay, paint and
(blue, green, yellow, red, brown and orange) a knife (to shape the layers).
We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry, we
identified each layer by painting them in different colours.

Below are some pictures of our work.

Maths Halving

Hello,👋

Today for maths we've been doing halving.
We had to draw a shape and then our buddies had to try and half it.
Some the shapes couldn't be halved.
There were 19 squares in each half.

It was really easy to draw the shape.😎
I enjoyed trying to see how the shapes could be halved.😂
It was hard to half my buddies shape.😕
It was also hard to make the table.

Here is my shape.

Mixed Ability Maths

Hello,👋

This term we have tried a new kind of maths called Mixed Ability Maths.
It's when we are put in a group of 3 or 4 then have to work out difficult
maths problems with each other. I sometimes found it difficult working in this new way
of learning, but I gave it all I got this whole term!

What did I enjoy? I enjoyed seeing the people in my group
showing new ways of working things out.

What I have found difficult? I found that it was sometimes hard to
communicate with my group.

I don't really know what we could do to make this
more fun and enjoyable for everyone but I do know
that it would be easier to work out problems if everyone
was on the same thinking level. 😁😎

Annelise’s Maths Thinking

Hello,
For two days, we have been learning about how to use equal adjustments and place value partitioning.
We did this to help with our maths and all our learning.
The learning behind this was equal adjustments and place value partitioning.
On a google draw we have been showing our learning in a colourful way.

I was good at adding the ones to the problem.
I was bad at the 3rd problem. (I needed help)

The Living World

Hello,
This is my living world slideshow. For the next 5 or 6 weeks we will be choosing our own activities to learn about the living world. We did a multiple intelligences test to see what kind of learner we were. My top three ways of learning intelligences are;
1. Naturalist
2. Linguistic
3. Visual
I am looking forward to learning about Visual.
It was interesting to see what my test results were.

Earthworm Digging Deeper

Hello, hello again, On Wednesday we got to try some experiments on earthworms. But now today we are learning to dig deeper in our sentences from simple ones to complex ones on earthworms.

In the experiment yesterday I loved finding the worms in the forest outside.

Some of the questions were hard.

Here is my Digging Deeper sentences!!😁😜

Fish bone MRS GREN

We have been learning how to write explanations and also doing research about the living world so our teachers gave us this writing task. We learned what a fishbone diagram is and how to use a completed one to make our own using a life form of our choice. We had to organise the fact boxes by using MRS GREN which is an acronym which reminds you about what life forms do.
Here is mine. 😉😂😎
I chose to write about: Mice.🐁
What I liked about this task: I liked that we could chose our own life form.
What was easy: Nothing, really it was all a challenge.

Bike Safety

Hello,

For the last few weeks we had to do a task about bike safety.
We did a bike safety task because a nice boy came to our
school and gave us helmets.

The fun part of this was we got to make lots of
things to present our DLO with. I chose to use a google form.
The learning behind this is to learn how to be safe on bikes.

The hard part of this was seeing the responses
because some people got it wrong.
Here is my link to my bike safety google form.
I hope you like it.😎😂

My bike safety link!!

The Reproduction Of A Sheep

Hello, Hello again,
Today I finished a DLO* on farm animals, I chose sheep because they are cute and fluffy.
We had to find facts about the animal we chose.
I found finding the facts for my DLO easy.
I found drawing the little lamb hard.
*DLO is short for digital learning object.

Figure Me Out

Today I finished my Figure me out drawing.
Yesterday I made one of these on a piece of paper with my group (But it was less colourful!!).
The equations were hard at first but I started to understand.
which made it easier to know I was doing.
I was good at choosing the colours.
I wasn't so good at getting the right size of font the first time!!👅✌
I learnt how to Embed my Figure me out drawing to my blog post, its pretty smart!!

Fruit Art

Today we've been learning how to use some tools on our Chromebooks.
We all made Fruit people.
I was good at making the name.
I wasn't so good at making her.
Here she is, the fruitful Suzy Sparkle!!!😂😛😜😎
