Christmas decorations

Hello,

Today and yesterday Team Moana has been making Christmas decorations to sale at the Whanau
evening to raise money for the next year ski trip. Ms A said that we had to make quality decorations,
quality over quantity. Ideas started flooding my head when I saw the materials. We could be by ourselves
or be in groups.

Me and my buddy were sitting at the table thinking, thinking. Then she said we should make a New
Zealand themed wreath. Thinking. I had an idea. A Kiwi wreath. I drew the design on paper and showed
the teacher, she said it was a cool idea.

I didn’t really like how the power went out when we were halfway through.

I liked the whole idea of the Christmas decorations it was so much fun.

Essential List 6 , 7 and 8 Annelise

Hello,
Today and yesterday Team Moana have been doing an activity to practice our spelling on Essential lists 6, 7 and 8. We had to choose ten words from one of those lists and write the syllables, write a sentence and the root word.

I didn't really enjoy this activity because I don't like spelling (I'm not good at it).
I enjoyed writing the sentences because I could be creative and I like writing more then spelling.
The learning behind this task was to practice our spelling words for the test.

Language exploration

Hello,

Today, Team Moana have been given a choice, to do an animal report or to do an activity with words. We have from today till Friday to get these activities. I chose to do the activity that involved words. So, what we had to do was ether make a slide or a drawing and name it "Language exploration-verb" or "Language exploration-adjective" depending on if your word is a verb or adjective. Then we had to make a new slide, on this new slide we would chose a word. We had to brainstorm some words around the word in the middle, it had to be colourful and had to have a readable but fun font. We could go to Thesaurus to help us (it is an online site that shows you better words for a plain word and it shows you the definitions for words you don't know). After all of the work on that slide there is one more slide to go, when you went looking in Thesaurus you would have found a word that you don't understand so we had to do one more slide and write down the word. We had to find the definition, find out how many syllables, show the vowels, show the consonants, write how it's said, find smaller words that mean the same and write a sentence that has the word in it.

I enjoyed looking for words on Thesaurus for "Run".
I didn't really like having to spell all of the words that went into this task.
The learning behind this task was to be able to better words for a simple plain one.

Margaret Peters Spelling Test

Kia ora everyone
Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 36 which gives me a spelling age of 11.0
At the beginning of the year, I scored 38 and had a spelling age of 11.2.

So, my spelling age went backwards by 2 months and my score went down by two words.

I think I got this result because I'm not very good at remembering how to spell words and
I can't even remember where all the letters in the alphabet go without saying them all.

I'm not very happy with my test results, I think I could do better.
